New TriStar222 Sardinia on the triathlon map

The prestigious Emerald Coast is home to the first international
high-quality long distance triathlon event in Italy on 3 OCT 2010.
14 JAN 2010, Monte Carlo, Monaco/Milan, Italy

Sardinia will host the first ever TriStar222 long distance triathlon race on 3 October 2010. The TriStar222 Sardinia Arzachena Costa Smeralda is situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Italy, where white sands meet crystal clear waters, the Emerald Coast. The first long distance triathlon in Italy entails 2km of swimming, 200km of cycling and 20km of running and is organized by I AM SPORT Events & Consulting and Star Production SARL with the support of the Region of Sardinia.

TriStar222 Sardinia Arzachena Costa Smeralda will be held on 3 October 2010 for the first time. Athletes from all over the world will enjoy the first ever TriStar222 labelled race covering a 2km swim, followed by 200km of cycling and 20km of running. It is the first time in history that a long distance triathlon with an international label will be hosted in Italy.

“TriStar222 Sardinia offers one of my favourite cycling routes, attractive from the standpoint of scenery and at the same time challenging in terms of racing, thanks to the rolling landscapes. The hilly layout will enable all athletes to compete in agility and strength, and at the same time it will make the competition even more exciting”, says Martina Dogana, Italian Champion in triathlon who has participated in developing the race in Sardinia.

The 2km swim takes place in the clear waters of the Bay of Cannigione (Arzachena), in the province of Olbia. The 200km cycling portion follows a single-loop course entirely closed for traffic. Once in the vicinity of Arzachena, triathletes will head east towards Porto Cervo sailing around the headland on the west of Cannigione. Once back near Arzachena, the circuit will turn towards the coast in the North-East to Palau. Then athletes will follow the coastal road through Santa Teresa di Gallura until Aglientu, where the course will enter into the wild hinterlands of Northern Sardinia distinguished by the classical Mediterranean bush through Luogosanto, Tempio Pausania, Luras, Calangianus, Sant'Antonio di Gallura and back to Cannigione. The 20km run course consists of a very fast circuit of 5 km, entirely flat along the seafront of Cannigione, to be completed 4 times.

"Our city is enriched by a new international event that will help promote the area and facilitate meetings of world-class athletes and actors of a fascinating sport discipline that is sweeping across Europe with increasing numbers of participants. I thank everyone for their speed in setting up this event allowing us to be at the top of this sport in Italy”, said Stefano Piero Filigheddu, Mayor of Arzachena, at the presentation of the event earlier this week.

Costa Smeralda – the Emerald Coast – is a coastal area in northern Sardinia covering more than 30km2 with enchanting beaches and beautiful landscapes. The area is a luxurious tourist destination and hosts important international sports events like the Sardinia Cup sailing regatta, polo matches, vintage car rally’s, and also the Italian Film Festival.

TriStar222 Sardinia Arzachena Costa Smeralda is organised by I AM SPORT Events & Consulting, a Milan-based company founded by Andrea Vasco, Marco Galliena and Stefano Leone. The Region of Sardinia strongly supports the event; FITR (Italian Triathlon Federation), Road Runner Sports Club Milan and Oscar Petroboni – technical delegate for the Beijing Olympics 2008 and Member of the Technical Commission of ETU (European Triathlon Union) will collaborate to bring the event to a success.

The TriStar label is owned by Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company specialized in organising high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection. A portion of each entry fee is donated automatically to Lance Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG™ foundation, and each event applies the 4vita® program to reduce the environmental impact of sports events.

The full event website will go live on 19 January 2010, online registration will also open that day on www.tristar222sardinia.com.

Active, Runner's World Are Most Popular Running Information Web Sites

The web sites Active.com and RunnersWorld.com are the world's most popular sites for running information, news, results and community, according to an analysis of 60 web sites in 15 countries by Race Results
Weekly, the wire service of distance running.

Using the most recent web traffic rankings generated by the respected web information company Alexa, Active.com and RunnersWorld.com had the highest traffic ranks for the last three months. Out of the Alexa universe of millions of web sites, Active.com was ranked 6,531st globally (1,987th in the United States) and RunnersWorld.com was 10,418th (2,927th in the USA).

Admittedly, the comparison between Active and Runner's World on the web isn't completely consistent. Active's massive site, used primarily by citizen athletes to sign up for recreational sports and see the results of those events, also draws users from a diverse group of sports, including softball, soccer and triathlon. Since Alexa only ranks entire internet domains
, and not individual web site sections, it is not possible to know the running-only traffic rank for Active.com RunnersWorld.com should be considered #1 for sites which only dispense running information.

Behind RunnersWorld.com, only six more running information sites made it into Alexa's top 50,000 for the last three months. The next is Competitor.com (23,172nd), which includes news, training advice, and event information, including all of the races in the popular Rock 'n' Roll racing series which are owned by the site's operator, Competitor Group, Inc. LetsRun.com (24,544th), the message-board driven site which covers mostly distance running, but also track and field, is #4. MapMyRun.com (26,747th), which allows users to find and map training routes and to record their training, is #5. CoolRunning.com (35,011st), MileSplit.us (36,230th) and IAAF.org (39,029) are the only other running information sites to make Alexa's top 50,000.

Runner's World UK, Runner's World magazine's British site, and the Fédération Française d'Athlétisme, the French athletics governing body site, round out the top-10 sites on the global list.

Within the United States, the same sites fill out the top-7 in traffic rankings as the global list, but three different sites come into the top-10: FloTrack.org (news, videos and community), USATF.org (the American governing body for track and field), and MarathonGuide.com (marathon event listings, results and community).

The web sites of running specialty retailers and shoe and apparel companies, which are primarily set up for the purpose of selling goods, were not considered in the analysis. Event organizer sites were included if the organizer put on multiple events throughout the year. Sites of one-day events were not included because their use is mostly seasonal. Track & field sites, including the sites of governing bodies, were included because they dispense a considerable amount running information. Alexa's rankings are updated constantly, and could show different results in the spring or summer when the track and field season is in full swing.

For the sake of comparison, the most popular sports information site in the world, according to Alexa, is ESPN.com. It ranks 60th in the global list and 17th in the United States.
